【IMPORTANT】 Implementation of Japan Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening
The number of people entering Japan from abroad has increased, resulting in a significant increase in the number of foreign-born tuberculosis patients. Therefore, the Japanese government plans to start “Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening” during fiscal year 2025.
●Japan Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening
Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening applies to nationals of the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar, and China (*1) who intend to enter and stay in Japan as mid- to long-term residents (excluding re-entry permit holders (including deemed re-entry permission)), as well as those entering under the provisions of Notifications No. 53 (Digital Nomad) and No. 54 (Spouse or Child of Digital Nomad) on Designated Activities. These individuals are required to submit a Tuberculosis Clearance Certificate when applying for the Certificate of Eligibility.
However, if your current place of residence is confirmed as being in a country or region other than the eligible countries/regions by proof of a residence permit or other document, you will not be eligible.
*1 The implementation dates for Indonesia, Myanmar, and China have not yet been decided.
*2 JET program participants, JICA training participants (long-term and short-term), JICA Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) students, government-sponsored students recommended by embassies, contracted programs for the education and training of foreign students, nurses and care workers, foreign nationals with specific skills, and foreign domestic support personnel acceptance programs based on EPAs with the relevant countries (Special Zone Act, Article 16-4).
●Tuberculosis Clearance Certificate
The Tuberculosis Clearance Certificate is a document issued by an overseas medical institution designated by the Japanese government (a designated panel clinic), and is valid, in principle, for 180 days from the date of the tuberculosis medical examination (date of chest X-ray). The Tuberculosis Clearance Certificate must be valid when applying for the Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status.

Check vaccination history and recommendations
Check your vaccination record to prevent health problems.
Having unexpected health problems while studying abroad may cause trouble, such as delayed consultation and treatment due to language and financial issues.
Vaccines can reduce the risk of infection and becoming severe cases of several important infectious diseases.
It is important to check your vaccination record before traveling and consider which vaccines you need to protect yourself from such infectious diseases and prevent the spread to others.
Some vaccines require multiple doses, so please consult with your doctor about the type of vaccines and vaccination schedule as soon as possible before studying abroad.
